Our Story

Surfers for Strays was started in 2017 by Natalie Ritenour and Isabel Velasco when they rescued seven puppies and the puppies' mother who had been abandoned and left to suffer from malnourishment and parasites. With the support of their community, their work grew and two years later Surfers for Strays became an official organization with programs that supported the adoption of abandoned dogs, youth education, and free spay and neuter program for underserved communities.
